How do you know what breed the egg will hatch?

This is probably a very dumb question, but I'm new to everything. If I were to get say a batch of Salmon Faverolles and Lavender Orpingtons and there were roosters and chicks in the bunch living together. Do roosters choose to fertilize certain eggs and also what breed would hatch out of the eggs?

Roosters are not selective to their own breed. They mate all the females. If you have 2 breeds your eggs will hatch out mixed or putrbred depending upon which rooster fertilized the egg.make sense? Not sure if im being clear.

Oh I see, so for example both breeds of the rooster could fertilize one egg and that would result in a mixed breed?

Yes. He could also fertilize a hen of his breed which will result in a purebred.
