How do you know when EEs are ready to lay?

You may not have that long to wait. I got 1 week old EE's on 5/1/10 and got my first egg less than 1 month ago...now I have three EE eggs a day, starting today! I believe you will see a green/blue/olive hue any time now! I don't want to spoil it for you, but the feeling is awesome!!

I'm right there with ya. 4 EE's born 5/14/10. They are not squatting. Two of them have been red faced for several weeks and no eggs. I'm thinking not till spring now. So sad.

Yeah. Even her Pea Comb will show the signs of change. She's almost there. Be patient. Watch her comb, it will color up nicely...pale to red. She'll start her egg song and scoping (ie. running around) the yard for good egg-laying spots. Eventually, you'll get an egg in the nesting box.

HMM from what im reading, one of my EE's will start laying soon. Her comb is not really red and i haven't really noticed squatting, but i haven't been really looking but up until the other day she wouldn't let me get close to her now i can walk straight up the her and half the time she lets me pick her up. I hope she will start laying. She is 18 weeks.

My ee's were hatched May 23, 2/5 of them are laying now. first ee laid on October 30, the 2nd laid on November 3
The rest of the ladies are laying too, 2 delawares and a BO

One of the ee's that is laying looks exactly like yours

That will be the great part when this EE starts laying - I'm sure I'll know it's HER egg! With the BRs, I can't tell who lays what; they are so similar.

I'm so looking forward to a few colorful eggs... how exciting. Thank you all for the advice! I love this board!
