how do you know when your chicken has mites or lice?

after reading about all these mites i'm getting nervous. how do you know if they have it?

I know mites look like dark little spots that move slow.I found lice on a few of my birds last night thanks to a wandering chicken that passed by here, and they look like little white/beige fast moving bugs that are under the feathers on the skin.They are icky.
