How do you maintain a run that is low in height?

Hello!

So I am genuinely curious, but how do people adequately maintain a chicken run that is less than 6' tall?

We're currently in the process of building some new housing for our flocks and I've flirted with the idea of building short runs, but I just don't understand how people keep them clean.

You know the ones I'm talking about, I know you've seen them! How do you do it?

If you can provide pics that would be great, thanks!

DO NOT DO THIS. I REPEAT- DO NOT BUILD A RUN OR COOP THAT YOU CAN NOT WALK INTO.
I did this once and have regretted it since. I have a second coop and that one, although perfectly useable, is out of use. It hurts my back too much.
Many people just bend down (I did) or make rooves that fold up and out.
Birds (me too) just appreciate a higher top overall.

I have a prefab with a small run and then we added a run extension. I can "walk in", but not stand up in the prefab run. But, not the extension. I use a hoe to move the shavings around or scrape them out to put in new. I have considered a child sized rake, but the hoe is working for now. I only have 4 chickens and just take into consideration that I will get some poo on me. However, I am looking into other options for a coop and run to start on in the spring.

I honestly don't think I could deal with it. We once had a grow out pen that I maybe used twice a year that was 3h x 3w x 6D and I never enjoyed anything about it. I was just wondering if anyone's actually been successful?

I can't imagine using a short coop or run! Very short or very young people might manage, but the rest of us? NO WAY!!!
My chickens like height and space too.

Mine free range from early morning and are protected from fox's by my two dogs but I put them into one of these runs by night and clean with a long handled dung fork and hoe and find my wheelbarrow so handy and spread old dung and straw around trees and shrubs in the garden ,the heavy Irish rain washs the goodness into the ground in no time

Bradley Wheeler, advise from an old man . RAISE THAT PUPPY UP TO AT LEAST 8 FEET.

My run is small 6'x10" and only 4' tall. Its a pain in the a&& but manageable because its small enough. I can reach most of it with a rake without actually going in, and the door is in the middle on the long side.

Dont tell hubby....but I have grand dreams of a giant walk in coop attached to the entire side of my horse barn! lol Can you say spring project??

Make the kids and grand kids go in the coop. :lau
