I don't want to use any tags. I just have 3 white ones and really have a difficult time telling them
apart. Any hints on doing this?

We have 19 Australorps and I got 'Chicken Bling' from Amazon. Basically zip ties for the legs with charms on them. The lovely side benefit is that the charms gave them names, i.e. Superman charm is SuperChicken. Who is actually good friends with BatHen (Batman) and Robin.

They don't dangle. This was taken when I stopped in the middle of adding the bling. It took me a little while to figure out that were crowding around because they were hungry. So, I stopped to feed them. Note you can probably zip the tie tighter, but as a new chicken owner I was more worried about hurting them. One fought the zip ties enough that her bling was lost in the coop dirt. But then she would have been White Skull Chicken, so I understand why she'd prefer No-Name.

Unfortunately zip ties as well as plastic spiral bands can become to tight as the chick grows resulting in crippled, dead, or single or double amputee hens and roosters. A wing band can be installed on even a day old chick and when that chick matures it is still right where it always was and no permanent damage happened to the chick.

Since the wing bands are numbered and or colored there are no dangling bits to lose, and cause problems or injury.
