how do you mark your girls to know who they are?

My neighbors use a zip tie to tell apart their two look alikes, and since they are still kind of young (almost full grown but not completely) they made it loose, so it won't bother them, b it it's tight enough so it will stay on. It doesnt bother the bird at all. What breed are they? We have two barred rocks, and I(I'm the only one XD) can tell them apart based on their comb. One's Comb Is much smaller and has a side sprig. The other has a larger comb with more points and doesnt have a side sprig. If you don't want to use leg/ wing bands, learning to identify them based on their combs is also pretty use fil. I like the nail polish idea, but it's a litter hare when you can't see the feet, and you have to keep re-applying it.

As you can see from the photo, which was taken on Install Bling Day, we waited until they were adults or close. And even then, I left the circle lose. They are more like ankle bracelets and drop to just above their feet.

We didn't do it for breeding purposes, since they were all from the feed store. Right before they started to lay, they got very friendly. So, we'd go out to pet them. There are more of them than us, so the chickens took turns. We started to suspect that some chickens were taking multiple turns, but since they looked so alike we couldn't tell and that was frustrating.
