How do you preditor proof against THIS??

Sorry to burst your bubble but alligators can jump. I've seen video of them jumping out of the water and landing on concrete pipes to sun....that were 6 ft. out of the water! Also, my friend was riding her horse and one chased her on land....he almost caught up with them at a gallop....They run fast too. If you live in an area that has been known to have gators, a .38 on your hip would be a wise idea. I live on the river and have a tall bulkhead between me and them. In 20 years I've never had one in my yard, thank goodness. However, I still scan the area before trotting out toward the river, just in case. No sense being a durn fool.

The stable I lease at has a canal at the back, and we see gators all the time. There's a chain link fence there. I believe it's been about the same for the last 30 years. We've had some large turtles come through but never a gator.
I think some good fencing would be plenty to keep them out.

Do gators even eat chickens? I've never thought about that.

It's pretty cool to walk your horse around the barn and maybe spot a 10 foot alligator.

Certainly they can jump out of water, but jumping over things *on land* is different.

When you look at how zoos, Everglades Nat. Park, etc handle "separating gators from public", it certainly does not seem like they have a problem with jumping over things.

Running speed is not particularly relevant that I can see.

Pat, who has worked in swamps with gators around (in SC) and does have some idea of their behavior despite my current address

Well thats why I posted the pic of the gator "climbing" the door..so yeah they can climb.
Personal preferance is using a 375 H&H & follow the advice from New2TheCoop

I agree with both those ideas! Never eaten Gator though...they taste like chicken?
