How do you ride bear back on a horse?

I truly miss those long days of bareback riding. Hacking through the hills and valleys galloping around with glee.. no strings attached what so ever. Freee as the wind we'd be.. bonded to the hip and all.

Anyhow, yes balance is a must, sitting your horse correctly, along with loose lower legs.. the only grip I would pursue had been with the upper leg muscles. A good rider has a soft hand as well.. Geesh, I think its time for a ride.

What a beautiful horse ! Is it a Rocky Mountain ? I grew up riding bareback as we could not afford a saddle. It is still my favorite way to ride. You are SO connected with the horse. If the sweat on your jeans becomes a problem you can go to a bareback pad. Ride free !

Yes she is and a homebred too boot. Now I am down to 5. 2 bay mares, 1 chocolate gelding, 1 black gelding and 1 blue roan mare. All but 2 are homebred. I had to earn my saddle by riding bareback and learning balance.
Just love riding that super fast glide.

:)

Maye
Ride the glide.......

Good Grief ! I thought I had a lot to feed. Sadly today I have one less. My 30 + yr. old Arab stallion went to pastures that are forever green today. I am heartbroken but I know it was the kindest thing I could do. I will miss him terribly. He was the sweetest, kindest, stallion you would ever want to meet. Always the perfect gentleman. If I may, I would later on like send you a copy of a horses prayer. But right now I have to go take care of the rest. A grade mare, two of Egypt's foals, now full grown mares, two mustangs, a burro, 3 dogs, 3 cats, and 12 chicks 3 1/2 mo. old. 5 Australorps, 4 R.R. 3 buffs ----- and a partridge in a pear tree. Enjoy your beautiful horses. Any other pictures ?

I am so sorry to hear about your boy. I know exactly what you are going thru. I lost my old foundation Rocky Mountain mare a few weeks back. She was 28+ years old that I know of. She was caught off of a mountain top in Eastern Kentucky as a full grown mare, put undersaddle and certified as a Foundation Rocky Mountain Horse. She was 1 of 33 horses of old Kentucky Saddlestock out of the hills and hollers that started a new breed. I have 1 of her daughters and I see Bridget in her everyday. Just remember all the good times. And see him in his girls everyday. It will get better, one day a a time. PM me and tell me some stories about your Egypt. Maye Ride The Glide......Got Gait.....I Do.....

Riding bareback is easy especially if you can already ride. You need to sit closer to the withers and grip with your knees. It just takes practice, but the muscles o the inside of your thighs will be a lot stiffer than they are riding with a saddle. You may have a hard time walking for a day or two until you get used to it.

Bareback will improve you riding skills DRAMATICALY in the way of balance. Ride just as you would with a saddle, keeping a straight plum line, and sitting on your seatbones not rocked forward on your crotch. Stay relaxed and move with your horse. Do it as often as you can, and you will become a better rider everyday.
