How do you set up broody hen?

My silkie hatched out 5 last fall and it was cold here then,she done very well keeping them warm.I would not give her anymore then 6.I`m so excited for you,I have been waiting for one of my silkies to go broody.I have a question, should you attempt putting chicks under a first time broody or should you wait untill she has hatched out eggs and learned how to be a mama.My broody that hatched out the eggs died a few weeks ago so it would be one of her chicks that will go broody.She is 5 months old so I don`t expect her to go broody until spring or early summer.

Once she gets them on the floor she'll be fine then, she likes to sleep in the wood shavings under the nest box. I'll have to check to make sure though

heres what i did:

i know it looks bad but it works. The same chicken is broodying now and thats what i did! I have a brooder box in the coop too and i put mom and babies in there after they hatch. Good Luck!
