How do you ship a duck? And how much does it cost?

Well, I need to wait and see what quality they are, they are only like 2 and a half month old welsh harlequins, there are three females and a male, but like I said, need to wait till spring to see what quality they are. And they need to feather out fully.

I agree with FL chickens. I have dealt with shipping many times. It will be around 50 for one bird. If you can try to buy multiple birds because shipping doesnt go up that much for 1-4 medium ducks thru USPS. Also ask if the shipper has an old box and keep your boxes for later shipping. Ryan are you shipping delta dash, overnight etc? Because that seems way too much.

Im still not very sure she wants to ship one of her drakes. But I will ask her.

that's a lot of money for a duck you've never seen on a private sale. Since you're just starting out, buy a group from Holderread as ducklings (if you don't need the minimum order of 10 of just split your order with someone). You'll likely find that one in your order will meet the SOP and you can show it... Holderread has really nice stock

Shipping adult birds is only worth the expense and risk if the adult birds are exceptional quality and also have bloodlines that you really need.

Then, unless you are showing and winning, any ducklings you hatch from that shipped bird aren't going to be worth any extra money when you sell them. You have to prove that you are breeding winners.

For the cost of shipping an adult bird, you can buy a box of Holderread's top exhibition ducklings (roughly $100 for the minimum order of ducklings including the shipping).

Then you can go through those ducklings and keep the females and re-home the extra males. You'll end up with some very nice ducks with a good name behind them.

It's not alway as simple as to put them in the mail or Delta Dash. Depending on where you are shipping to you may need to be NPIP and my have to have a Health Certificate. Most state require an import permit along with NPIP or Health Certificate. Best to check with your local board of animal health for specifics. Import permits can take up to 3 months to get.

I am assuming you are talking about my drakes that I am going to put up for sale here soon

I have to agree with others that it wont be worth it to try and ship one or even two of my drakes when you can order your own Holderread's ducklings next spring for about the same price
