Noodleroo: My chicks shipped form MyPetChicken in Ohio on Monday, May 3rd (I'm in New Hampshire). I called them to see if they shipped as planned and they said they didn't have tracking info, but they believe they had shipped. I called my post office and told them to be prepared for chicks and asked what times of day I might expect their call. (Mypetchicken said they could arrive Tues, Wed or even Thurs). The post office said daily delivery trucks came at 6:30am and at 1:00pm and they took my number (just in case the box didn't have it, which it did). On Tuesday, the very next day, May 4th, I worried when 6:30 came and left with no call. But at 12:59 EXACTLY later that day, they called.
I drove to pick them up and was really pleased to see that the post office folks had the box up near them, and the guy said he even peeked in on them to see if they were okay, and that he hoped I didn't mind. I didn't mind, and was grateful that he was concerned. The next time I was in the post office he asked how they were doing, so I really felt like they cared. Maybe something about the sweet chirps softens them.
BTW, I ordered 8 Bantam chicks and all arrived safe and sound and healthy and warm. I was very pleased. One later died, but it was a tiny runt, extremely small, and so I don't blame the post office at all. I felt very happy with how they handled the chicks, and I'm also pleased with MyPetChicken.
I understand the anxiety, I too get very emotional, don't feel bad, it shows you care. Hang it there! And remember, sometimes one or two don't make it, and that does not necessarily mean it's the post office's fault.
