Woke up every hour on the hour. I didn't anticipate this anxiety! Called the post office and they hadn't got their truck yet this morning. If they don't call in a little while, I'm going to be a nervous wreck all day!

I understand how nervous you may be, but no one on here can tell you anything different except to just wait and see how it goes, or something along the lines.
Are you receiving or shipping them?

I am receiving them from Ideal in Texas. I'm in Texas too. I know that there may be some mortalities and I'm prepared for that, but I didn't think about how I'd worry about how they were being handled on the way here. I've raised day old guineas before, but its been almost 40 years since I've had chickens and I've never had any shipped. My animals are all so tame because they would never dream that anything or any person would hurt them. I just hope whoever is handling my babies is treating them gently.

No call from the P.O. I guess it'l be tomorrow

OK...My chicks will not be shipped until next Monday. I am preparing to be awake Sunday thru... whenever they get here!!!

The post office called me at work to let me know that THEY DID NOT COME IN. I thought that was nice of them; I guess it'l be tomorrow. I hope they're OK...I don't think I can stand this shipping thing again.

I didn't sleep. I was a mess, waking up every hour like you. Next day was exhausted at work, then was called to pick them up and left work mid-day, so excited. I was nervous about my own driving I was so excited. Then I talked to them all the way home, it was crazy.

Laurajean, how many days were yours in the mail? I'm sure mine will get here in the morning so that's just 2 days in the mail. I just hope everybody handling the box is gentle with them.

I don't mean to sound so childish, but I've been looking forward to getting them for (what seems to me) a long time, and, I just can't stand to see an animal hurt or mistreated. It really hurts my feelings in a way that I don't think I can explain.

I took treats (for the postal workers) to the Post Office today at lunch time to let them know I appreciate their' watching out for my babies. They have always been very nice to me. I don't know what else to do to ease my concern.

There must be a medical Latin name for this anxiety before getting chicks in the mail like 'mailachicka neurotica! LOL

Noodleroo: My chicks shipped form MyPetChicken in Ohio on Monday, May 3rd (I'm in New Hampshire). I called them to see if they shipped as planned and they said they didn't have tracking info, but they believe they had shipped. I called my post office and told them to be prepared for chicks and asked what times of day I might expect their call. (Mypetchicken said they could arrive Tues, Wed or even Thurs). The post office said daily delivery trucks came at 6:30am and at 1:00pm and they took my number (just in case the box didn't have it, which it did). On Tuesday, the very next day, May 4th, I worried when 6:30 came and left with no call. But at 12:59 EXACTLY later that day, they called.

I drove to pick them up and was really pleased to see that the post office folks had the box up near them, and the guy said he even peeked in on them to see if they were okay, and that he hoped I didn't mind. I didn't mind, and was grateful that he was concerned. The next time I was in the post office he asked how they were doing, so I really felt like they cared. Maybe something about the sweet chirps softens them.

BTW, I ordered 8 Bantam chicks and all arrived safe and sound and healthy and warm. I was very pleased. One later died, but it was a tiny runt, extremely small, and so I don't blame the post office at all. I felt very happy with how they handled the chicks, and I'm also pleased with MyPetChicken.

I understand the anxiety, I too get very emotional, don't feel bad, it shows you care. Hang it there! And remember, sometimes one or two don't make it, and that does not necessarily mean it's the post office's fault.
