Thanks for the support! I ordered 11 Buff Orpington pullets and I realize that some may not survive. I've seen so many cute pictures on BYC that it just hurts my heart that they might get handled roughly. I'm sure that my PO will be careful with them, its the inbetween transit that scares me.
We live in a neighborhood that is not in the city and have a privacy fence in the backyard. My son gave me a chicken tractor for Mother's Day and I just want to keep 4 chickens in it behind our house. Its not illegal to have chickens here and they won't bother anybody; no one will even know they are there. The rest of them will go to live on our acreage about 3 miles away in the country. We have black sex links in a big coop there with an automatic coop door (opens automatically at dawn and dusk). I'm out there every day to play with and 'treat' them and I think the 'extra' BOs will be a really nice addition....I'm really looking forward to having them.
