Mine LOVE watermelon, sometimes i'll cut one in half and just stick it out there.

Joking. Only the mean cockerels get fattened for the butcher knife. Right before winter, I give my hens cracked corn along with their regular food. It helps put some weight on them for our cold late October-early May season.

Um, I don't live in the south. I live in the Midwest so we get everyone's weather. From below 0° to above 100°.
