2 days ago we had an Old English Bantam Hen hatch out 4-5 chicks and she is very protective of them. This is the first chicks born on our farm. We have had ducks and geese for a decades.
I scooped her and her chicks and put them in a rabbit hutch thinking it would be more protection and easy food for them since our chickens do have a barn they can go to if they want at night, but they all free range as they like because we have some excellent Turkish Kangals that don't play around with any predators. My plan is to introduce feed store chicks under hen tonight and hope she adopts them as her own. Then them all bond for a week and turn them back out to free range.
So this morning we went to TS & Atwoods and pickup up a few more bantam chicks, same age, and are curious to know what breeds they might be. The chicks are around 3-4 days old and I realize they are way too young to ID positively, but looking for guesses. I'll post pics of them as the grow out.
We have chickens but this is our first time buying chicks from feed store and they didn't have a clue as to breed.
Any help would be appreciated! Any thing I have written in this post about our plan that needs revised, let me know. I'm a newbie!!
