How do you STAND this!!

Hatching for the first time and tonight is Day 19/20 we have heard peeping and 2 eggs are pipped. I fear I screwed up the first pip - the temp was up to 102 and the humidity was 70% in an LG still air w/o fan - so I took of the windows to let some heat/humidity out and SMELLED something. (We put in a few questionable eggs) Well then I raised the lid and sniffed an egg (not the right one) and quickly closed the lid. The temp was back to 100 and the temp was FINALLY at 65% (and has said at those readings ever since). What I didn't notice was that one egg had pipped before I did that....did I kill it????

So my questions are this:

#1- How do you handle the suspense/excitment and worry???

#2- Do I try taking the window off and find the smelly egg? (I think I might know which one it is....there is one that looks like it has a possible crack)

#3 - How long does this TAKE?? ARGH!!!

If you have an egg pipping you should NOT open the lid it will shrink wrap the chick!
