I have two blue laced Wyandottes that started going broody in wintertime... we tried the wire cage method they'd stay in it for maybe.. 6 days and be fine.. put them back out with the others wait 3-4 weeks and right back to being broody.
now I have two brooding at the same time we chase them out of the nesting boxes.. they sit on the floor of the coop till we chase them outside. they are fine for 1 maybe 2 hours then back to the boxes they go.... if I had been told wyandottes were so broody I would not have got them being a new chicken owner. but now I got them and sans cooking them which I love them too much to do I am out of options. the cage don't really work for us
