How do you stop chickens from pecking eachother raw?

Please if you have any ideas or solutions to this problem O wpould appreciate it. I'd like a natural cure..meaning avoiding the sprays from the feedstore but if this is the only solution then I will do it. Why do they do this?

They do it out of boredom. I had the same problem and the only thing that work for em was PINE TAR, you have to brush it on the affected chickens, it taste horrible to the one that are doing the pecking, believe me when they taste it they will stop.

Thanks everyone for your help! I purchased the Pine tar today and put it on my girls...keeping my fingers crossed it will work.

I had an elderly man tell me to hang a piece of salt pork up in the coop, tie it up with a string and let it hang in there, they will peck it and leave each other alone, well I tried it and it works very well.
