How do you store your poultry feed?

My feral cats probably take care of the rats. I have had plastic trash cans for over 10 years and have yet to meet a mouse to chew through them. I'm just sayin..

Yes, thank goodness for them. One of them worked overtime on yesterday. This is definitely confirmation for me as to why I don't have a mouse or rat problem and why my plastic trash cans have not been eaten by rats for the last 10 years. My Cali got my attention yesterday as I was in the chicken yard and showed me what she had killed. This dead rat was about 5 steps away from the feed storage building. I LOVE MY CATS! :love

Did you give her a big chunck of fresh raw meat? She deserves it. I would suggest liver, its cheap and cats love it. ( so do the chickens)

Interestingly (or not) we had a cat that LOVED chicken liver and all but the gizzard parts of the "chicken innards packet". I would buy him the quart containers of chicken liver at the grocery store. The other cats? meh. They also don't like fish cat food. And they barf up mouse. Of course, mouse is not something WE give them.

Yes. We have clinics in our area that local vets sponsor so that people who have feral cats can bring in and get all of their shots and vaccines at a very low cost. They also have the spay and neuter clinics and you only pay $10.00.

Glad that you mentioned the chicken liver in the quart containers. Thanks for that reminder.

Gotta be the best "charitable money" spent. Not many would spend the big money it takes to spay a female to help keep the feral population down but for $10, it is something people are willing to do. Same with the vaccines, take in a feral and reduce the likelihood there will be nasty diseases around your place. Hmmm, maybe next time I go to the vet I'll say it is a feral cat and hope for a discount. Ah, never mind, now they know us and our cats.

I have been using plastic totes for four years now and have yet seen any damage. I have no cats. When we did they kept coming up to the house and living in the garage. When we bought this farm 23 yes ago we had a massive feral cat problem. Could not get anyone to help with them so we had to take matters in our own hands. The first summer we killed almost 200 of them. We raised sheep and the cats would kill the lambs or eat their ears and tales off. The cats we diseased and very sick. Each year we killed half from the previous year. We seem to be a drop off site for unwanted animals. We have always tried to find new homes for them. When we couldn't we kept them.
