How do you tell cuckoo marans from Dominiqes?

I have both and from the pictures of the marans they look just alike!! i planned on raiseing and breeding both but I don't want to catch the wrong roo!! Should I put a band on their feet to tell them apart? I've only got one cuckoo and was thinking about a different maran. C

The cuckoo maran will look more barred and have dark legs as the dominique will have yellow legs.

Maran's have single combs and Dom's have rose combs. They look very different when grown.

Most Maran's I've seen have pinkish white legs.

Hey Barb!

As far as I know, which isn't all that far, young Marans and some adult strains in the US have dark legs. The true french variety have lightly feathered legs. So it depends on where you get them, I guess.
