how do you tell if chickens are old

i have two hens which i brought a few years ago and i dont know how old they are but im kinda sure there getting on, they dont lay but i was just wondering if there are any easy to spot things about only old chickens have

Yes actually. Old chickens have all the traits of a bad layer, a dry vent, wrinkled skin and few eggs layed.
 
If you bought them a couple of years ago, then they are old, especially if they were full grown when you bought them. Old chickens look old, and walk old, kind of bent, kind of stiff, and they often get kind of crabby.

IMHO - any chicken over 2 1/2 is getting old.
