how do you tell who is laying

Here's something PaintedMeadows helped me understand a little about.

The hen's abdominal cavity will swell with the developing ovary & oviduct and that can be detected externally. I've read that the ovary itself can increase from .1% to 3% of the pullet's total body weight during the time of laying. The oviduct also has a similar increase in size and weight.

I have 6 chickens and just got first eggs. One of my girls has a moist bottom (by vent). At first we thought she was ill but nope, eggs! Funny thing is she is the smallest and we thought we may loose her cause she is so tiny.. She is also the sweetest girl and very friendly. Her eggs are however, very tiny. Her name is Lucy and I am so proud of her.
