How do you treat for mites?

Thank you Cindy!

I'll write those names down and talk to a chemist. That's the kind of information I needed.

I believe that they can burrow into the skin, and cause inflamation as well. Isn't mange caused by mites?

Spraying the birds with bleach? No need to do that! Bleach is not really an insecticide, though I suppose you could drown them. You may be hurting your birds with the fumes, and making them cold with the water.

You do not need to go to a feed store or pet store, do you have a hardware store with a garden section? Sevin powder (carbaryl) is also marketed there as an insecticide for putting on vegetable plants.

I can't figure out where you live- if you are in the city/suburbia there are petstores, if you are in the country you have feedstores. If you are really out there, you need to stock up on all possible poultry supplies by mail. Check out the on line farm suppliers, they will quickly inundate you with catalogs.

Poultry dust is pyrethin dust, Sevin is a brand name for carbaryl dust. Old fashioned Flea powder for dogs is one of those, just marketed in a smaller containers.
DE is maybe useful for control, but if your peeps are swarming with mites or lice- you need to use serious insecticides.

Well, we are "really out there," and in the six months we've been here we have not received even one posted mail or received any couriered packages and we know there have been both sent to us. There are simply no feed stores anywhere in all of Bombay that I know of. I wish I could find one. It would be worth a two hour train ride to visit it. Seriously.

I really appreciate your help.

Anyway, I have a bottle of the stuff I was telling about and this is what is in it:

Ammonium Chloride 9.2% w/v
Benzalkonium Chloride soln L.P. 13.8 v/v
Bio n Tributyltin Oxide 1.0 v/v

Manufactured by Bio-Corp Ltd. in Pune, Maharashtra, India.
