How do you water them???

I'm sorry I don't have any pics now but will try to get one. I have a 5 gal bucket on a shelf outside the coop. I run a water hose out of the bottom of the bucket through the wall of the coop. To that I have attached a piece of pvc using a 90 degree elbow at the hose/pvc connection. The pvc is attached to the wall of the coop to avoid any roosting on the pipe. My piece of pvc is only about 2" long but the same idea could work for any length of pvc. I have 4 nipples attached to the pvc for 9 chickens. By attaching it to the wall and by using flexible hose to put it together, I can adjust the height for the different ages of the chickens. All I have to do is check the water level in the bucket and fill it with another watering hose outside the coop. Works great for me.

We use electric dog bowls in winter- I know your need for them would be sporadic, except during those rare winter events that sometimes creep in...

If rain water is collected it should be in such a way that wild bird droppings do not contaminate the liquid.

THANK YOU! That helps a great deal.

(I won't be using rainwater, I have a well for irrigation/livestock purposes, and I have several spigots right outside the coop)

I'm too stubborn to deal with all that newfangled stuff. The water spigot by the coop has a leaky faucet so I just let it drip into a bowl. Will work fine for all but really cold nights here. I'm willing to carry hot water a few times a year.

Hope the pics help.

Thank you SO MUCH!

LOL, if I had a spigot in the coop, I would totally do that. Mine are all at least 5' away though. (We have 23 spigots in our yard...our YARD, most of our property (at least 2/3rds of it) is woods, LOL. 3 of them are on city water, the rest are on the well...the night we closed on the house, while trying to park our camper close enough to the house to run the power to it, hubby ran over a spigot...you know it was city water, right? Midnight, waiting for Roto-Rooter to come help us find the water shut-off and turn it off for us because our stuff wasn't delivered from Alaska yet, and we had no clue where on the land the water shut-off was LMAO) Anyway, no shortage of spigots around here, just none in the coop ROFL
