Hi, all! Me again. Same chick as yesterday; I'm wondering if it has dislocated its hip. How does one tell if its dislocated? I've tried feeling both of its legs, and some of the other chicks' legs, but the chick with the hurt leg is clearly in pain when I feel its hurt leg. It doesn't feel broken.
So, what I'm wondering is, how does one tell if a chicken has a dislocated hip?

Do you have a picture of your chick? Could it be splayed legs as in walking very bull-legged or is it clearly limping on one leg only?

I don't have a picture to post right now, but I can get one later. It is very clearly only one leg; I asked Tudybot, and it said there would be some swelling if the leg is dislocated, but there isn't. It also seems to slowly be getting better: it's using its good leg to hop along, but it's started "rowing" itself along with its bad leg, a bit like a human with a heavy limp.

Getting a picture of the legs side by side from the font or the back can help. Does the foot turn in or outward? How old is it. Are you using a chick vitamin with riboflavin on the label? Human B complex tablets can be crushed and fed to the chick daily, and 1/4-1/2 tablet if good. Slipped tendons are common in baby chicks. Leg bone deformities can become more evident as they grow.

I can't get a picture right now, but I know the foot turns outward. I don't think it is a slipped tendon, as nothing feels out of place and nothing looks flat. I will check on the riboflavin as soon as I get the chance. Thank you guys so much!

Okay, here's your picture:

The spot on its bottom's fluff is a piece of a pine needle.
Also, I checked on the feed, and it does not have riboflavin in it. Should I go ahead and get the vitamin B complex next time I am in town (I live a bit away, haha!) or should I seek a way to get the chicks to green grass? I read that could help.

Okay, here's your picture:
I see you're right; it's just the one leg. As long as it seems to be improving on its own, maybe it sprained or strained it, and it's healing. If it was really painful, it would be sitting around often rather than trying to walk. I definitely would take @Eggcessive's advice and get some B-Complex vitamins or vitamin water like Nutra-Drench or Poultry Cell at least that has that in it. More concentrated Vit B complex as she mentioned would help more.

As for grass helping, wheatgrass is high, but not everyone has wheat handy to sprout like us, but I'm sure some green grass might help though too. Be sure to get some B-complex when you can.

Alrightie! Thank you!

What is the feed brand and do you have the label? Is the hock joint swollen or is there any scabbing on the joint? Here is a video on slipped tendons and there is a part 2 available.
