How does one keep chickens from eating Roses?

I've had chickens in my yard for the last 5 or 6 years and this is the first year they have started to eat my roses as soon as it starts to flower. Depressing! Anyone have any ideas of how to keep them away besides fence or barrier?

You might check your roses for Japanese Beetles. Here in Kansas City they have been in their hatchling stages, your chickens might be going after them. If they are the roses will be damaged because of the flocks pecking to get the bugs. Just a suggestion.

Either fence the roses so the chickens can't get at them.....or fence the chickens to contain them.
