Just an update.
Officer T called yesterday and asked if she could come over in a few minutes. Uh, sure. Thank GOODNESS I was already expecting different company and my house and yard were clean!
She wanted to personally see my hen, the coop, etc. She was surprised at how small my banty was. She is a sweet bird and wanders around the backyard all day. She let me easily pick her up and Officer T and the cadet petted her and asked questions and took pics. They were very impressed with the coop too. They asked lots of questions about my statement of "educational purposes" and I explained my kids questions about how eggs are formed and fertilized. That was a hilarious conversation with my kids btw.
Officer T noticed my ds's college t-shirt and asked about my religion. She is not the same religion but asked if I knew someone else she knew of my religion, and I did! Then she asked my dd what the chickens name was and my adorable dd said, "Her name is Hollyhock. I named her after my favorite flower." How cute! It was a very comfortable visit/inspection.
So anyway, bottom line is they are asking me to apply for a permit. The permit is actually for "extra animals" but she said this was the best way to do things. She will also have to inform/get approval from up to 30 of my neighbors. I don't think I even know 30 of my neighbors.
She also told me there is someone else in my town who has a permit to keep chickens and someone who has a permit for a pig!
So she asked me not to get any more chickens until the permit thing is figured out and it will probably take 2 months, but things look good.
