How early can they have treats?

My daughter sneaks in toast crumbs to our 2 weekers....they are so funny when I "catch" them...everyone freezes (including my daughter)..then the frenzy picks up where it left off.

That's a matter of opinion. Some wait until they are out of the brooder and some start giving treats on day 1. Chicks hatching from a hen will get a wide variety of food right away especially if they are free ranging chickens. I just wait until I'm sure mine are eating the chick starter well. Then give them some sand and start with some edible plants, flowers, or vegetables from the garden. Mine have never liked yogurt. Even the adults at most just walk through it and ignore it.

My first chickens, now 3 months old, have ignored both cabbage and nine grain bread!

They enjoy their scratch, however.

I start giving them tiny bits of greens, yogurt, fruit, etc....when they are about a week old. Sometimes they eat it...sometimes not. But they are exposed to it.
