How early can you tell if he's going to be a good roo?

My rir was sweet and everything bit once the girls started laying it all changed. He would cahrge you if you ever turned your back. It took a good couple times putting him in his place. Bow he don't come bear me when I with the hens.

That is how mine acts. He is fine when I am facing him but if I turn around he attacks. My friend punted him pretty good last time and he has been well behaved since then but I still don't trust him. He is headed for the stewpot pretty soon (just not mine because I don't have the nerve to do the deed!)

My RIR got really aggressive for a few weeks. I knew it was hormones kicking it, and tried to be understanding. Nothing I did worked until I got the idea to open the run with the hose sprayer in my hand. They are in a tractor, so I am at a disadvantage with the roo and he knew it. Finally I decided to mist him in the face with the hose sprayer when he reared up to nail me with his spur.... very gentle mist, but that seems to have worked! Now when I open the run, he corrals the hens to the back and lets me change the water, put in treats, etc. Even squatting him didn't work, but the mister did... might want to try it before he is headed for the pot.
