How EXACTLY do you turn an egg?

I think I understand.... I put th epointy end down and on the fat end I put an "X" on one side, and directly opposite it (still on the fat end) but under the X I write an "O". ANd then every three hours or so, I either have the X up or the "O" up? I don't worry about the blank sides of the X & O? I got too many eggs off of ebay and I just can't throw them out so I want to pull my turning tray out of my mini Brisnea and hand turn the eggs so they all fit....

Let the egg lay naturaly on it's side. Put an x on the top side of the egg (not the round end) then turn it over (still on it's side) and put an o opposite of the x. When the egg is laying on it's side the fat end is still slightly elevated so you don't need to worry about the air cell getting messed up as long as your bator is on the level. I'm turning 3x a day and I believe that is the norm. Happy hatching!

I only turn twice a day. About 7am and 7pm and have always had great hatches.

So I have one X on one side and an O on the other and I just switch between the two about evey 6 hours? Sorry I am still a little confused....

Yes, the side that is on the floor of the bator shelf is then rolled so it's on top and then reverse 3 or 5 times a day. It's recommended to turn them an odd number of times so the same side isn't down all night, every night. You gently roll side to side, not end over end, if you get my drift. An automatic turner just tilts the eggs back and forth a few times a day, side to side.

I would have failed this at school if it was a class....so gently rolling side to side means I roll it to the left slowly until the O is up and then 4 hours later I roll it to the left again so that the X is up? (Complete rolls to get to the letter??? or just a slight roll so that by the end of the day I am AT the opposite letter?) Sorry again...

When I hand turn I roll from X to O..this is turn 1, then from O to X..this is turn 2..then from X to O..turn 3..ending up with the opposite side (O) up.

you are supposed to turn an odd number of times per day so that when you are sleeping the eggs are not resting on the same side every night.
You can use an egg carton/flat and raise opposite side per turn as well; makes turning easier in MHO.
