How expensive are quail to maintain?

Oh, I'm right there with'ya, partner. I'm just sayin' if I figured up what I had in bators, brooders, pens, more pens, feeders, waterers, feed, more feed, TIME, MORE TIME......it would glow RED. I went into this just so I could have Bobs for my family (and hers) to eat anytime we wanted. I've got that part down pat. It's the ones I sell for little or nothin', or give away that makes the red really glow. BUT, I will say this............If I had to give up this hobby, I'd prolly have to go to counseling! I Love My Bobs...

Amen!! I figured out a while back, When ya stir "make'n a profit" into something you really enjoy. One has to be careful to not take the fun square out of it... Now I go out of my way to be sure and be in the RED. Its work'n great! I'v got WAY too much money in bird stuff, and have'n a big time!!!

I birds on the pit is hard to beat! Heres a BBQ pit I built a few years back for BBQ cook-offs. Did real well for a few years. Then folks started want'n me to cook for wedd'ins and graduations and such. For a bunch of drunks at a cook-off, did'nt matter much if the brisket was rubber or the ribs turned to soup, cuz I was drink'n too much whiskey. But when lit'l Betsy was gettin married, IT HAD TO BE GOOD!! Bill

Its a legal pit, not gas and runs over 20 hrs on 30 lb of charcoal. But I had to set it on my trailer with the back-hoe, It weighed a tad over 1200 lbs... shipping is gonna be turable!!!

hi there i have only 2 quail at the moment they are lovely and live very well with my big chickens, i give them lots of treats is there anything that you have found that quails love??

I know some like to peck at millet sprays and some some types of veg, but you would have to ask a more experienced quail keeper about that

Mine enjoy bird seed tossed onto the ground to scratch at (and eat). Indoors, they LOVE a sandbox to play in. A large shoebox works great for that, filled with play sand, loose dirt, even perlite from the garden center. Then toss a handful of birdseed (or mealworms) and they'll have a blast pecking through it and picking out the edible bits. On a wire floor, mine enjoy having one section covered in clean straw. They tend to keep it pretty clean, and it's where they go to rest (when they're not making "nests" in the sandbox).

They also like weeds from the yard, especially those with soft fruit attached (like wild strawberries). They also like to peck at melon rinds and similar very soft fruit, although I recently tossed some cantaloupe "guts" to them and they ignored it. But then, mine currently live in a large aviary with plentiful worms and bugs and grass and birdseed and dirt and hay, so it takes more to wow them, lol.
