How far do quails have to be from chickens ?

Thinking of getting Japanese quail to go along side my 11 chickens in my chicken shed . The coop I'm planning in putting them in is 10ft away from the chickens and has been used by chicks around a few days before Im planning on getting them . So I would just like to know weather or not diseases could be transmitted from this distance.

You should be fine. Just remember to wash your hands before handling quail after handling chickens. Here is an article on biosecurity.

You should spray the pen with a diluted bleach solution then plain water to clean it ahead of the quail. also let as much sunlight one the soils as possible. UV rays from the sun are a great disinfectant. If you have time after you take out the chickens turn over all the dirt with a spade and let the sun clean that up for a day too.
