How far off the ground should my loft be

My loft is 3 feet high with a door centered in the middle of the box. I tried to keep the chicken wire windows higher off the ground in order to prevent cats from peeking in. How high should I keep the box off the ground?Can I do this with 2-3 layers of cinder blocks?

What is your climate? What is your frost line? It might be easiest to raise it up with a 4×4 depending on your climate and how big the loft is.

I live in Northern New Jersey. It gets pretty cold in winter. My loft is a 3x3x3.

Okay. so you probably want to bury whatever is going to support it 16 inches. That way when you have a hard freeze, the loft doesn't get pushed up. it's really up to you what material you use to support it.

Okay so maybe wooden beams? How far off the ground do you recommend the loft to be?

Yes, I think treated wooden beams would be best. I would make your loft about 2-3 ft high, so that it's an easy to clean level.

I live in Michigan and my loft legs are two wolmanized 2x4s doubled together. They do not go into the ground, they just sit on top of it. They extend about 18" from my loft floor. It works good, striking a good balance between lower drafts and ventilation.

I wold not use chicken wire anywhere you think predators can access, as it can be chewed through. Use 1/2" hardware cloth instead.
