What did you do in the garden today?

We recently lost my StepDad, who'd been declining rapidly since contracting the flu over Christmas. My Mom's in the same boat as your MIL, grieving her loss while having to totally restructure her life after spending most of it caring for him. Make sure someone's with her for the one-month date. That was REALLY hard.

EDIT to fix typos that were bothering me!
I am grateful for this insight. I'm keep this in mind. I'm sorry for your loss as well.

It's been dumping rain here. Gale force winds, hail, thunder. I love it, but it's unusual here. We've gotten 5+" since Sunday night. Supposed to get more. I expect another 3"over the next two systems. Get a break over the weekend. Hooray!

Time to start tomatoes! And various other things! Yay!!!!

I'm starting to think that my jalapeno seeds aren't viable. I started 3 rows in my seed starting tray and not a single one has sprouted. If they haven't started in another few days I'll buy seed and try again. The only other stragglers are, chile del arbol, diamond bell, and Casper eggplant. No sprouts on the eggplant seed yet but arbol and diamond have a few breaking the soil at least.

Apparently Casper has a low germination rate as it is, but there's still time.

Sump pump under the house is getting a workout, it started last night and has been running off and on ever since. We got a lot more rain last night. Local lake has gone up 7 vertical feet since Sunday. It will likely fill another 4 vertical feet before the end of the week. If we're lucky we'll hit 65% capacity!

Just be careful! I had that problem with my cayenne a few years ago - they didn’t come up after two weeks and I put in new ones and then the first ones came up. 😅 I use a heat mat now to avoid that.

55 at wake up. Change is coming and rain tomorrow evening. We are in a moderate drought. Cleaned the naturalized daffodil area. Nothing up yet but soon.
Here's one I missed when I dug mine last summer after the dieback. The ones I stored and planted in the flowerbeds are a bit behind, as expected, but coming along. Meantime you and I can enjoy this lonely fella.

Checking my seed stash. Doing a germination test on some old spinach seed. I have a thought. Dangerous I know. If any sprout I may plant in a seed tray and transplant later. Our climate makes spinach difficult. A cold spring slows it down and the end of May it bolts. It is a race to get any to eat. Perhaps transplanting will help.
