By 5 or 6 weeks old my chicks (that I am hopefully going to buy tomorrow night for my broody) will look like that. By then Pepper will have quit being broody and gone back to laying eggs.

My boys commented the other day that they don't look like chicks any more. They look like little chickens. It really is hard to believe they go from such cute little fuzzy things to little chickens in such a short time. I love watching them run around the yard exploring.

I went to Atwoods and I bought 15 chicks from Atwoods and they are I think maybe a week old. I think there are 7 black Australorps of BSL, and also 8 Buff Orph or New Hampshires. Not sure the bins said Banded Pullets and I didn't want to wait until my order from Cackle came in on March 30th! I'm getting 150+ chicks this spring! And to think I bought my first chickens in November!

Wow! You're planning a lot of chicks! I thought 52 babies was a lot.

Once they go out into a grow-out coop, the one that hasn't been built yet, I do want to do this again. They're so much fun.

Well,I have to tell you about my experience with growing chicks.I answered a local ad for chicks and the guy said to bring a box.When I got there and saw how BIG they were at 6wks.,I couldn't believe it.Lucky for me the guy found a box to put them in.My box was for maybe 1 wk. olds.
