how fine a grit?

My feedmill only carries medium grit. Is that too coarse for 2 week old chicks?

You might try grit sold at pet stores for parakeets and such if you think they need grit.
If they are not eating seeds, cracked corn etc. they don't need it. If your chicks are only on starter, they don't require grit yet.

If your feed mill doesn't have "chick grit" then just stop off a the hardware store and pick up a bag of Builders Sand or All Purpose Sand (not Play Sand).
Builders Sand or All Purpose Sand has a range sand size and is the only thing I use (for chicks to adults) and at around 3.00 a 50lb bag its not expensive.

Try not to give chicks that young the Parakeet grit since it does have added calcium in it.

Their organs are too young for this added calcium.
