I plan on putting a sloped roof on my run. Should be about 6' high on the low side and 7' high on the other. I may not have that on in time for when I first put my hens in the run.
I guess my question is, how high can a 3-4month bird fly? Would they be able to get out of this? (I am aware of the need for cover due to predators).
Thanks,
Steve

That might keep them in... at that age mine struggled to make it over a 5' fence.... but some did. Depends on how flighty they are. I know folks who have little trouble with a 4' fence. I think it depends on the chicken... and how much reason it has to want to leave!

My fence is 6' tall welded wire. I did not have any type of roof on at all for a while, and none of my girls tried to "fly the coop" ...er run. I've since put deer netting on top to stop the hawk from getting an easy meal, and plan to replace this with welded wire as summer progresses and DH can find the time to install it. My breeds can be seen in my signature.
