How high must a fence be for some polish bantams?

I would worry more about keeping things out of your pen...You really should have some sort of top over the run--predators can easily get to your chickens without it. And Polish are especially susceptible to predators. They are like little walking bullseyes for hawks with their little top knots, and they can't see anything coming, either!

But I bet those little guys fly pretty well, anyway--my standard Polish can--so predators aside, it would probably be easier to just cover your pen than try to build the fence high enough or worry about clipping wings.

Good luck...Polish are cool birds!

My bantam ameraucana have flown 8 foot into the rafters inside their coop, so those small birds can get lift off pretty easily. I would cover it as well for their protection (to keep them in and other stuff out).

We in this case i think i will just make a roof, as much as i want to shoot the pest with my pellet gun i don't think its legal to shoot hawks and owls.

My Polish bantams easily cleared a six foot fence as soon as they had a few flight feathers. They did it from almost right below it, flew almost straight up. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it. As soon as one did it, the others followed. I had them in the new run while we worked on it, thinking they would be more interested in the newly available grass while we put the top fencing on. I now trim flight feathers on one wing in the summer when they free range, because they really enjoy being up high. We have a fully enclosed run because of predators, but quite a few of our bantams of various breeds are very good fliers. I'd definitely put some sort of netting on top!
