I have a few Rhode Island Reds, and I don't know how high to make the perch in my coop.

Depends on your ceiling height somewhat. If it's around 3-5 feet like most coops, make your perch as high as you can without any possibility they will hit themselves on the ceiling while either on or flying up to the perch. Mine easily fly up to either perch I have in my coop, one is 2.5 feet, the other is 3.5 feet.

Most often they just fly to the lower one and then hop over to the higher one, but most nights I find the high perch squished full of hens and the unlucky 1-2 birds left sad on the lower one.

Ok. Thank you. I am going to start to make a perch in my coop once my Rhode Island Reds get a little bigger. I have heard a lot about how high to make them, but I wasn't sure about the Rhode Island Reds.

Make sure it's higher than the nest boxes or they will roost in the nests and fill them with poop :-P

I like those. Did u make them? Need to make some for my banty's

I did make it. But after the coop was occupied, I found out the roosts were too close to the roof area. I need to drop it down about 12 in, or so.

My rooster is 31 inches off the ground I just have a couple chickens do I need a ladder for them to get up?

Our roost is probably around 48" (it's chest height and I'm 5'4"). There is a ramp leading up to it.
