How high should water nipples be.

Hi I just converted to water nipples and i was wondering how high they should be like on the chicken should it be above the head when its standing comfortably or should it be allitle higher than the head so they have to extend allitle to peck them. They are vertical nipples on a 5 gallon bucket.

I think the general guideline is at the height of their back though mine are set higher so they do have to stretch up a tiny bit to reach. I think if you can land it right at head height it should be fine.

I use nipples and cups attached to PVC pipe. Mine is mounted 12" high to the center of the pipe. Both ducks and chickens that are just 8 weeks old use them with no problems. I attached mine with zip ties so if it was to low it would be easy to move .
They seem to use the cups more often
