how important is hardware cloth/wire on bottom of coop & run?

redfogs flock cool. the sand idea is a good one. I had not heard that yet. why would anyone waste money on wire when they could do sand?
ridgerunner- I don't really have sod around the edges. clay earth and rock....

I ended up just hardware wiring the whole floor 10-12 inches below (coop and run) and packing dirt on top. now I will sleep soundly. : )

Go to Home Depot (or wherever you go) and buy a 50-foot roll of 3-feet with 2-x4-inch opening wire. Lay it on the ground all the way around and up up against your run and coop. Pin it down with something (clothes hangers ?) and throw some dirt over the top of it it you have any piled up anywhere.

This is an old thread but totally relevant. I'm building a chicken tractor and working on making it predator proof the original design has only a corrugated roof( I will use something else and an open bottom coop area. I've looked for construction sand but can only but it but the ton . anyway I was going to sure the bottom. Because the idea is to move it so I'm not sure about the bib idea ... Looking for your experience either way since this is an old post
