how important is it to have a proper "man door" on a coop

great advice here. I'll be going with the big door I think.
Thanks!
and thanks BGinVA for posting the picture of your coop. It's nice to see a similar sized coop. How many birds do you house in there? Should be ok for up to 12 based on the 4 sq. ft per bird thing.

Right now I have 5 in there, but I have 6 babies in the brooder as well, and will be culling a few roos before winter, and getting another batch of chicks next spring. We plan to stay right around 12, but they will have a fairly large run as well and if I'm slightly under the 4 sqft per bird for a couple of months at one time or another I'm not going to stress over it as long as everyone seems happy and content.

Take my advice and put a man size door on your coop.my dh husband and i are constantly hitting our heads when we go into the coop.our first coop we builted is small and i have to get down on my knees to clean it.i'am 60 years old and it is hard on my knees.

I would always put in an access that you can get into. You never know what might happen in your coop and you just have to get in there. I would save yourself some heartache and go ahead an put your door in it. If it was me I would have a door in the wire and then a man door into the coop with the chicken door as part of the man door.
