OK they didnt eat the chickens or actually kill any but they sure damaged my coop and ate my feed.
Woke up this am (3am to be exact) to my neighbors cows in the yard - Garden demolished! and they wrecked some of the chicken wire for my run and ate my feed.
poor starving beasts - we managed to chase them away by firing a gun in the air. and hubby followed their tracks this morning to see where they came from and it was the neighbors (this happens with his livestock at least 3 or 4 times a year) went and approached the neighbor about it and he called my dh a lier and that it wasnt his cows. his cows were out in his field.
lets just say it wasnt purty what happened next his own wife kicked him out of the corner store/cafe.
wouldnt be to big of a deal if he would just apologize and admit to it.
dh told him next time he would shoot at them instead of in the air

Next time do not run them back over the fence. Call the sheriff's dept. and get them out to file a report so you might be able to collect damages.

If you are in one of the states that long ago had a big beef industry chances are the laws are on his side from the cattle barons of long ago.

Whatever you do under no circumstances hurt the cattle or try to claim them. In many states you will spend more time in the pen for rustling then you will for murder.

The butchering idea is out too. Butchers can not take an animal, bovine, unless it comes in under it's own power due to BSE.

Tie the cow up in your yard and when the owner comes looking for it tell him "that's not your cow. Your cows are in your field 100% of the time"

Just funnin.........................I sure hope the cows aren't starving. Sorry aboutthe loss of your garden. I know I am depending a lot on mine this year.

If the cows really are starving, report him... Maybe you'd get some outside help that way. Just a thought

well I am in British Columbia lol. Next time I plan on running the whole lot of them down the road so he has to truck them back in. And its not one cow but 8 or 9 cows at least. This is an ongoing problem with this guy every year his cows/horses/chickens/pigs (pick one) land up running on the roads numerous times. and somehow it is never ever his crappy fences or anything its always someone elses fault or he just starts ranting about some other thing he is just an A$$. I dont worry just about damages to my own property but for anyone driving these roads at night and running into a large animal that isnt supposed to be there. As for butchering ah we know enough people that could take a cow apart for us lol.

we figure the cows are starving cause they will break out at any givin opportunity in search of greener pastures - I think he has them on twenty acres and the grass/forage is all gone or dead we have had a drought year this year. and usually every year since he has had his cows in the field they break out about now because they have picked the field clean.

ok...2 thing's first off. do you have a police dept? are a R.C.M.P detatchment? ...i would not shot the cow with a paint ball but spray paint it if you can get close enough...then call your local law enforcement to have them deal with it....proof will be on the cow....
