"How It's Made" hatchery chicks on right now!

Ya, I know what you mean... that it true. Only thing is, I wish they could come up with a kinder way to get them from the egg to me and my stress free life. I'd pay a lot more than a buck 25 to have them treated with more compassion. Know what I mean?

Dang, I never wanted to hatch eggs! Now I can't see getting more chickens any other way! Bleh

It was amazing how resilient those chicks are. Can you imagine being born one minute, then in the next few minutes, being tossed around, thrown down tubes, bounced through bars, tossed off conveyor belts, and jostled around in boxes? Wow they go through a lot. No wonder they peep non-stop when we first get them!

They are being treated like the commodities that modern agriculture thinks they are.

Yes, they must be tough little things. Poor babies, I'd have a hard time working in a place like that - I would be stuffing a couple of those guys in my pockets and get caught!

I didn't appreciate the rough handling of the chicks, but at least they are able to survive their ordeal. Those hens at the egg farm are living in horrific conditions. That really turned my stomach...

Definitely, but if they took the time to be nice, there is NO way they could get them all out of there in time. I was watching the McMurray one and he said they do like, 80,000 chicks a day. You cant sex them AND be nice in order to get that many out, lol. And it seems like its ok, because most of the chicks DO survive.

Oh my gosh, I had to stop when I saw the hen hanging her head out of the cage and blink her eyes in such sadness.

I knew I shouldn't have clicked on that link, but I thought I would see the chicks after hatching not the battery hens in such a horrid, abusive, and heartbreaking situation. It's scary that there are humans that don't think twice about treating another living being like this and that the rest of us allow it to go on. There have got to be more humane ways. Sorry for going on but this just crushed me..
