how late?

Just wondering what was the latest anyone has ever had to wait late for a duck/ chicken to hatch? I mean ducks suppose to be at 28 and chickens at 21 but has anyone ever had one live till like 40 in the egg then hatch?

I dont think a chicken will live to day 40 without hatching. Sometimes from low temps they might hatch 1-3 days later.

My last chick was helped out of its egg today on day 24. I think I had a delayed hatch (first pip late on day 21 hatching several every day through day 24) b/c my hen was so small and she was sitting on 12 eggs. It was probably hard to keep them all warm.

some ducks take a longer than 28 days. I would do my research for each type first. Any reputable breeder would tell you a maximum on days for hatching. Good luck.
