We use a 100-watt lizard bulb (black) that's electrically wired and strung by chain to the roof of the wooden DIY brooders, and a thermometer checks the floor. With the chain, we can go up and down by a link. Outside, they get the radiant cozy coop brand heaters.
We put in a vertical nipple bottle, so after about the 2nd day, some are already trying it. After I'm sure they all are, I remove the dish full of marbles. Crystal clear and clean water!
