how long ?? after bit breaks the shell??

how long should it take the baby to hatch after the initial first crack in its egg? I hear it chirpin an its been at it for hours...should I help it out?

Usually a chick will make a crack / pip in the egg and rest and acclimate its lungs for at least 8-12 hours, some will take more than 24 hours.
