how long b4 i get eggs from my barred rocks?

It varies a lot, but usually between 19-24 weeks old. Are their combs and wattles starting to get red? I've found that to be the best indicator of when a pullet is getting close to laying, sometimes it seems like they go from pink to red almost overnight.

I want to thank everyone for answering this for me. Have another question now. I have always had adult hens when my chicks started laying. Last year we couldn't do chickens and I culled them all. My new ones dont have adults to show them where to lay like I have had before. I have laying boxes and am ready soon to line them with hay. Would golf balls suffice in tricking them, or should I hard boil some eggs? Any suggestions?

We used plastic toy eggs. I have seen people use golf balls as well.

Since my last post on the 22nd...2 more BR's have started laying...one more to go.

My BR started laying last week at 23 weeks.

We put plastic Easter eggs in the nest box - we were hoping they would get the point and not lay elsewhere, and it worked! They all lay where they are supposed to.

even the Brahma almost has her beat hehe but I am glad she is taking her time, if they lay too early it can cause health issues.

One of mine laid at 20 1/2 weeks, the other at 21 weeks. One has laid an egg every day since she started, the other one lays about 3 days in a row, then skips a day. Her eggs are larger than the every day layer.

Once again I want to say thanks. I had a white leghorn once that used to wait almost three days sometimes to lay. Felt sorry for the poor girl, I have seen smaller duck eggs when she would wait like that. You know that had to hurt.
