how long before I need to get the eggs?

My chickens started laying eggs this weekend. I got 2 Saturday morning, and one Sunday morning. I checked before work this morning and no eggs. I won't be able to check until latter this afternoon after I get back from work. I live in Georgia, and its very hot during the summer. How long can the eggs stay out in the pen before I collect them so they don't spoil?

Any help is greatly appreciated as I'm new to this. I bought 6 chicks from Tractor Supply around easter and finally got eggs this weekend. I was so excited! I didn't expect all six to survive since this is my first experience with them, but they have.

I usually gather mine about 1 to 2 in the afternoon when I turn them out to free range.and middle tennese has some HOT weather.My nests are in the coop and i use a deep layer of hay and also part of the run in covered over in tin so they plenty of shade, but they know about time to go out and they all gather at the gate just waiting to be turned out and gather bugs. marrie

We are in central florida and on occasion ours get left all day in the boxes. You are fine. Only if the girls are laying the eggs in the hot sun, which I doubt, would you have to be concerned. I know people around here that will leave their eggs in the box for a few days and they are still fine.
