how long before they can free range

I am getting turkeys that are old/big enough to be out of the brooder. how long do I need to keep them contained in the coop before I start to let them free range? so they will know where home is and where to come back to at night.
I dont want to loose them

We got some about that age last year. They escaped on the first day. That night they roosted on our brooder house. Never did leave. We had them till Dec and they never left. We tarded them off at Shawnee show. can't wait until our Porter poults come in in May.

I would have prefered keeping them up a few days. They should be fully feathered and ready for the elements. If you think they are too young, they may be. Try building a 4'x8' turkey tractor. You can move it around for them until they are bigger.
