Hi everyone! So our turkeys currently have fowl pox caused by mosquitoes that were laying in their pool during the tail end of summer. We did clean their pool out every other day or so, but I guess that wasnt enough!

So I wanna know how to maybe keep the pool clean and skeeter free. Maybe skeeter dunks? Is that ok if the turkeys drink a bit of the water still? I mean, they poop in the pool anyway and still drink it.

The one good thing about Fowl Pox is that once they get over it, they won't get it again.

I mean yeah. But our chickens haven't gotten it and I wanna try and prevent them from getting it too. :(

During breeding season, dump the water out and rinse the pool daily. Multiple times ideal.
That’s the best I got.

"For poultry, the safest and most effective mosquito bait for drinking water is a product containing the naturally occurring bacterium BTI (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis), such as Mosquito Dunks from Summit Chemical or Altosid Pro-G from Domyown.com. BTI is a larvicide toxic only to mosquito larvae and other fly larvae, making it safe for chickens, fish, birds, and other animals that drink the water. Simply place a BTI product like a disc in the water, and it will treat up to 100 square feet of surface water for about 30 days. Another option is to use barley straw, which helps keep the water clean and deters mosquitoes from breeding."

Your problem is more likely other sources for mosquito breeding grounds.
